Dated 7th Mar.

received 8.45 £.m. 7th Mar. 1940.

7 MAR 1940

IMMEDIATE,

No. 108. Confidential.

6.

Your velogram No. 32. War Contribution.

After Ingiulative Council meeting this

afternoon Colonial Secretary will inform Finance

Committee in confidence of Government's intention

viz: to move on 14th March two resolutions

(a) 5,000,000 dollars to provide locally bullo

vessels as gift to His Majesty s Government.

(b) 100,000 pounds (sterling) as immediate cash

contribution,

Unless you hear to the contrary it may

be assumed that these resolutions will be passed

on that date. Smaller figures under (a) is due to

closer estimation by naval authorities. Personally

I hope that amount ultunately spent on naval con-

struction will not be less than that suggested in

my former celegram, but I think it wiser to confine

ourselves to the foregoing at the present time.
